Bio-K-Mulsion®

£ 26.01

Supplies vitamin K1 (500 mcg per drop) in an emulsified form to aid in the uptake and utilization of this important vitamin. Vitamin K status is important on bone health, and recent research has linked it to cardiovascular health as well. Vitamin K supplementation has been shown to have a positive impact on bone density and calcium loss.Osteocalcin is vitamin K dependent and the most abundant non-collagenous protein in the bone. It is synthesised by osteoblasts during bone matrix formation and incorporated into the bone. Vitamin K is also an essential co-factor for gamma-carboxylase enzymes. In the absence of vitamin K, g-carboxylation does not occur and this negatively impacts bone calcification. Additionally, vitamin K is required in the conversion of glucose to glycogen for storage in the liver. Thus healthy levels of vitamin K are important for promoting healthy liver function. Biotics Bio-K-Mulsion is a proprietary delivery system of utilising micro-emulsified vitamin K for enhanced absorption, which can be especially important with patients with malabsorption issues. Each drop of Bio-K-Mulsion® supplies 500 mcg of vitamin K. While healthy individuals are likely to manufacture adequate levels of vitamin K, those who do not consume adequate amounts of dark green, leafy vegetables, those who have undergone antibiotic therapy, and those on certain medications may all be subject to vitamin K deficiency. Seniors and individuals with fat digestion issues may also require supplemental vitamin K.  One caveat: vitamin K supplementation is contraindicated for use in those taking blood thinning medication.
